This was taken along the Arno river near the Uffizi at sunrise. This was our last day in Florence, and my wife slept in while I roamed the streets photographing anything and everything. The morning sunlight and earth tones of the buildings make this one of my favorite shots from our trip.

It is difficult to make good photographs when you're in the company of a non-photographer (e.g. my wife). She was very patient and understanding on our trip, but on this particular morning, I had to go out and do my own thing by myself :-) It was fun and quite liberating. It was also early, too! But the beautiful sunrise was worth waking up for.

In mid-April of 2004, my wife and I took a long vacation to Italy and Switzerland.
We stayed in Rome and Florence for a total of 6 days, and had a wonderful time.

This trip was my first serious outing with the Canon Digital Rebel. I used the kit
lens (18-55mm) about 90% of the time and it did well! I used mostly f/8 for DOF
and sharpness, and I kept it at ISO at 100 for smaller file sizes (shooting JPGs)
and minimum noise.
